Art Statement on “Lost Soul” Series

Lost Soul Series

The image of the eye through the history of Humankind has a connotation of power, wisdom and poetry. It is said to be also the sensor of reality and the mirror of the Soul.

Just a simple line drawn in the paper may not express anything but if we draw two converging lines forming an eye, the drawing becomes alive! An eye is a living entity.

The eye becomes an obsessive presence in my work. It’s a metaphor for life and death. An eye is a flux of joy or sadness, misery or enthusiasm. Through the eyes we dream, we anticipate, we expect.

Through the eyes we desire, we love, we hate, we kill.

In my work the image of the eye alludes not only to individuals but to a society as a whole. Lost Souls Series suggests the pathos of contemporary living. They resemble secluded and isolated selves exploited and subjugated by oppressive plots of political, religious, economic, and social systems.

They align in a serial mold as rigid archetypes of multitudes, as lost souls in a sinister society consumed by all-powerful systems.

My art work prompts the viewers to make their own interpretations through their own perceptive journeys.

But, Have we lost our Soul?
